A "Stupid" Way to Beat Pryce
A strategy guide on how to defeat Pryce using a Dudunsparce and Meganium!
Party Members
You Will Need:
- A 180 HP/252 SDf/76 Spe Dudunsparce at level 42, holding a Covert Cloak or Clear Amulet with Substitute, Amnesia, Agility and Baton Pass
- A 252 HP/252 SDf Meganium at level 42 with Swords Dance and Seed Bomb
Strategy
- Lead Dudunsparce.
- Set up an Amnesia with Dudunsparce whilst Pryce's lead Dewgong sets up Rain Dance.
- Use Amnesia again as Pryce will variably go for Waterfall or Aurora Beam. Aurora Beam crit does not 2HKO'd and it will never drop your Attack due to your held item of choice.
- Since the SpDef of your Dunsparce is increased by four stages, the AI will see Waterfall in Rain as outdamaging it. Use this time to set up a Substitute. It will not be broken by a critical hit Waterfall in Rain.
- Freely set-up an Agility as your Substitute is broken.
- Use Baton Pass and switch into Meganium in order to pass the boosts that you have thus accumulated to it.
- Rain will now have stopped. Pryce has noticed that his precious beloved Rain has now disappeared. What a tragedy! He must now restore it again. Use this opportunity to set up Light Screen.
- Swords Dance thrice on that Dewgong that sees Waterfall as its highest-damaging move and thus will ever use it. Even if you get crit thrice, it will not even come close to killing.
- Have fun sweeping with +6 Overgrow-boosted Seed Bombs :)
FAQ
What are the purposes of the EV's on the respective Pokémon?
The Speed EV's on Dudunsparce are to outspeed the lead Dewgong, and the rest of the EV's are dumped into SpDef and then HP so that Dudunsparce take as little damage as possible from the Aurora Beam. The EV's on Meganium are dumped into HP and Speed so that the AI see Waterfall as its highest-damaging move over an Aurora Beam that is attacking a +4 Light Screen Meganium.
Why can't you just set-up Swords Dance thrice against the Dewgong?
The Sneasel is faster and will thus kill me.
What if my Dudunsparce be Ground type?
Fear it not! You can run a Dudunsparce holding a Salac Berry with 180 HP / 252 Def / 76 Spe and Amnesia / Protect / Substitute / Baton Pass. Follow the steps below:
- Lead Dudunsparce and set up Amnesia, just like with the other strategy.
- Use Amnesia again as the Dewgong is baited into using a Rain-boosted Waterfall. PAY ATTENTION TO WHETHER THE ATTACK CRIT OR NOT.
- Use Substitute as it is broken by the lead immediately afterwards.
- (a) If the attack at step 2 crit: You have now received a Salac Berry Speed boost. Use Protect to stall for it. (b) If the attack at step 2 crit NOT: You have not received a Speed Salac Berry boost yet. Use Substitute again to receive the Speed boost.
- Continue from step 6 of the original strategy onwards.
Will the AI notice that it's clicking a Not-Very-Effective Move and thus switch?
Good Question! Uhhhh..... (I'm sure that it won't switch because it sees Aurora Beam as the Shiny Super-Effective Move, but I'm not exactly sure)
We reserve the right to update this for better spreads and strategies in the future.
