Substitute is a Normal-type status move that allows the user to create a decoy using 25% of its maximum HP. This decoy takes damage in place of the user until it is destroyed. In Polished Crystal, Substitute can be learned by various Pokémon, providing them with a strategic option to avoid damage and status effects in battle by sacrificing a portion of their health to create a protective barrier.
