Cherrygrove City contains your first Pokemon Centre and Mart. Residing inside is the Guide Gent, a retired trainer that gives you a nice tour of the facilities. He also furnishes your Pokegear with the Map Card. This is also where your first rival battle occurs.
Off the coast is a small island that contains Mystic Water, but you'll need Surf access first.
