Ghost Grey Rival Battles: The Best Friend Encounters and Their Teams
Ghost Grey files exactly one rival under the "Best Friend" class: Summer, who turns up across the route and again after the credits. This page covers what the ROM actually pins down, and says plainly where the data stops.
The post-game rematch
Summer's post-game battle is stored as three separate trainer records, one per starter, and it is fought in Pallet Town at Lv 89 to 93 -- which makes it the hardest fight in the game after the Lv 95-99 pair at the Heart of the World.
| Record | Starter-matched slot | Team |
|---|---|---|
summer | Water line (Lichtoise) | |
summer2 | Fire line (Chandelure) | Dragapult (Lv 90), Gengar (Lv 90), Brambalam (Lv 90), Scaraptor (Lv 89), Basclegion (Lv 90), Chandelure (Lv 93) |
summer3 | Grass line (Decidueye) | Dragapult (Lv 90), Typhlosion (Lv 90), Gengar (Lv 91), Scaraptor (Lv 89), Basclegion (Lv 90), Decidueye (Lv 93) |
The three records are not one team with a single swapped slot -- the mid-team slots shuffle too (Typhlosion in two of them and Basclegion in the other two, Gengar at Lv 90 or 91), so check the row matching your starter rather than assuming. Everything above comes from the ROM's trainer table, movesets included.
The story fights
Summer is met far earlier than that. A full playthrough runs into them five times before the rematch: once near Pallet Town with a Lv 7-10 team, again around Vermilion, again in the Desert Palace stretch, again in the Catacombs stretch, and once more on the way to the League.
Those five teams are not stored as trainer rows in the extracted data, so this page will not print them as tables the way it can the rematch -- inventing them would be worse than leaving the gap. What is certain from watching them happen is that they scale with your progress rather than being fixed, and that the rival keeps pace with you all the way to the League.
Two characters that get muddled
Summer is the rival, classed Best Friend. Maximus Voltage is the friend and the gym leader -- he holds the Cerulean and Vermilion gyms and hands out the Shock Badge twice, and he is covered with every other leader on the gym leaders page. The playthrough fights both, and mixes them up in its own labels.
What this guide does not claim
It does not give you a rival-battle schedule beyond the five story meetings and the rematch, and it does not claim the rematch is reachable before the post-game -- the levels suggest otherwise.
