Ghost Grey Spoilers: The League, the Deaths and the Choices
Spoilers, obviously. This is the page for the parts of Ghost Grey you are better off not knowing in advance: the story's turn at the Pokémon League, the choices that can end someone's life in-game, and where the rest of the spoiler material lives. The walkthrough stays route-shaped; this page is the other thing.
If you have not played it yet, go read Getting Started instead. The walkthrough is written to be read alongside a run, not ahead of one.
What actually happens at the League
Between the third and fourth Elite Four battles, the League stops being a gauntlet of trainers and becomes a room with a machine in it.
The room text is blunt about what you are looking at. A control panel is embedded in the wall, with tubes, wires and circuits from all over the room feeding into a single hub, and a large metal latch on the side of the panel. Painted on it, in bold: LIFE SUPPORT RESTART -- USE ONLY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.
Pryce is on that life support. The game lets you pull the latch anyway, and then it makes you sit with it: the machine winds down, he cannot breathe, and you get a yes/no prompt to turn the system back on.
Both outcomes are in the game, and the playthrough captured both: one branch ends with the game telling you he is breathing again, the other with three words -- he died. If you are playing to see everything, keep a save before that panel. There is no undo.
The next thing through that door is not connected to Pryce at all. Moa, the Elite Four member waiting past that room, is Takeshi's sister -- the Chief of Police you deal with in the main story -- and it is his death she is avenging, in those words: "you killed my fucking brother, Takeshi!" Her opening line is that she was hoping, praying, that you would make it that far, and she does not mince words about what she thinks you did to him. Then she battles you.
The rest of the League
The fights themselves are covered properly on the Elite Four page and the champion page, so this is only the story shape:
- The dialogue on the way into the League is about the badges up here being genuinely hard to earn, and about not being able to cheat your way to them -- you are meant to have learned from the old guard who trained before you.
- Before the champion, the game scrolls the previous Hall of Fame entries -- past runs recorded with their years, rather than a screen that only exists for your own win.
- The champion fight ends the way you would expect, with the Hall of Fame and then the credits. The credits are where the hack names itself: it is credited to Joey Zeed across design, art, story, music and dialogue, with a short list of collaborators on voices, dialogue and music.
The choices that can change your run
Ghost Grey hides its branching behind small, easy-to-miss decisions rather than menus. The ones we can point at with evidence:
- The life support panel at the League -- the one above.
- Kill or spare Takeshi, in the main story -- the prompt is real (
Kill Takeshi?) and the game stores the answer as a flag, so both outcomes continue. Whatever you pick, Moa later names him as the brother you killed. - Two explicit trap prompts, both of which are the kind of thing you walk into by being curious. The reference run logged both as do-not-touch.
- Dezo, whose card is a key item carried through most of the game. Whether you bury him and return it is a real variable.
- Alyce, who asks for the Bone Brush in the post-game.
That is the list of where the branches live, not a solution. We have not mapped the exact conditions behind every ending, and we are not going to guess at them -- the post-game page says which three endings exist and what plausibly feeds them.
The two things we will not spoil
- The endings themselves. There are three, and the third is the one noted as the true ending. What each one actually contains is not something we can establish from the ROM's data alone.
- The secret room. It is gated behind passwords you find by reading dialogue, and the people who documented the post-game deliberately did not publish them, out of respect for the developers. We are not publishing them either. Read the game's dialogue.
How this page was built
Everything here comes from Ghost Grey's own in-game text, and from a full playthrough of v1.0.4 captured frame by frame through the League sequence. Where a claim depends on a branch we have only seen one side of, it says so. Nothing on this page is inferred from a wiki, a forum thread or another guide.
Think a beat is missing, or know a branch condition we got wrong? Tell us -- this is the page where that kind of correction belongs.
Want the world without the endings? Lore and setting is the same material with the story left in the game.
