Emerald Legacy Special Trainers: The Named Battles Beyond the Gyms

Where each special trainer battle lives in Emerald Legacy -- gym leaders, the Elite Four, Wally, the rival and the Battle Frontier -- plus Steven's full team straight from the ROM data.

Not every important battle in Emerald Legacy is a gym. There's a rival who scales off your starter, Wally at Victory Road, the Elite Four and Champion at the League, and the Frontier Brains out at the Battle Frontier. Each of those lives on its own page -- this one is the map, plus the one team worth having in front of you before the League: Steven's.

Steven, the Champion, in full

The Champion's team from the ROM's own data -- levels 56-58, and every one of them holding something.

What that team wants you to know: Metagross at level 58 is the fight, with Earthquake, Meteor Mash and a Lum Berry to shrug off status. Skarmory's 4x Electric weakness and Aggron's 4x Fighting weakness are the two openings; Cradily's Leftovers plus Recover makes it the one that stalls if you're not hitting it hard. Full League table is on the Elite Four page.

Every other named battle

  • Gym leaders -- teams, levels and held items for all eight, badge by badge: Gym Leaders.
  • The Elite Four and Champion -- the same treatment for the League gauntlet: Elite Four.
  • Your rival -- five battles, scaling off which starter you picked: Rival Battles.
  • Wally -- his Victory Road team, plus the rematch ladder that takes him from 57 to 73: Rematch Trainers.
  • The Battle Frontier Brains -- five facilities, five Brains, and what the data can and can't tell you: Battle Frontier.
  • Gym rematches -- all 78 scaling rematches and the evolution items they reward: Rematch Trainers.

Why this page exists

Because "special trainer" is how people search for the fight that isn't in a gym, and the answer is always one of the six above. If you're here for a specific team, the linked pages have the full rosters from the ROM data -- every level, held item and moveset the game actually uses.

Where these numbers come from: Emerald Legacy's extracted trainer data -- Steven's full Champion team (Lv56-58 with held items and movesets) from special_trainers.json, and the rivals data for the other named battles.
