Emerald Legacy Rematch Trainers: All 78 Rematches and Their Levels

Emerald Legacy has a real rematch system: 78 trainers will fight you again, including all eight gym leaders, the Elite Four, Wally and the Champion. Leaders scale through five stages -- Roxanne comes back at level 26, then 55, then 60, then 65 -- which makes rematches the fastest route to level 65 outside of grinding Victory Road.

Two reasons to care beyond the experience. Leader rematches hand out four of the ROM's evolution items, plus the Lucky Egg. And the later stages are genuinely hard fights, not the same team twice.

Read the shape of it: every leader's stages 3, 4 and 5 sit at level 55, 60 and 65. Stages 1 and 2 match when you'd first meet them; stages 3-5 are end-game fights. Wallace's rematch tops the whole table at level 78, and Wally climbs from 57 all the way to 73 if you keep taking him on.

What leader rematches actually give you

That table is the reason to do them. Brick Piece, Up-Grade, King's Rock and Dragon Scale are four of the thirteen evolution items in the ROM -- all four evolve something, and two of them (King's Rock, Dragon Scale) have no shop in Hoenn at all. Lucky Egg is the EXP booster you'll want for the post-game grind.

How rematches work in practice

• Register them on the PokéNav. Rematches are re-triggered through Match Call, so if a trainer isn't showing up, you likely haven't registered them or haven't progressed far enough.
• Elite Four rematches are flat. Sidney, Phoebe, Glacia and Drake field the same team at every stage -- 53, 54, 55 and 56 -- so theirs are rematches in the literal sense, not scaling fights.
• One data oddity worth knowing: Bernie's stage-2 team is listed at level 232 in the extraction. Treat it as an artefact rather than a fight to train for.
