Modern Emerald Wonder Trade: How It Works, Tiers and Unlocking It

How Wonder Trade works in Modern Emerald — where to find it, when it unlocks, the 3-per-day limit, the tier system, and how randomizer and challenge runs change it.

Wonder Trade is in the basement floor of every Pokémon Center. It unlocks after your fifth badge — not at the start of the game, and not after the credits.

You get three Wonder Trades a day, unless you enabled the "Uncapped wondertrade" option at the start of the game, in which case there is no daily limit.

It is not fully random

Modern Emerald's Wonder Trade uses a tier system, so the Pokémon you receive is drawn from a weighted pool rather than anything in the game. Rare Pokémon stay rare — you will not fish a Rayquaza out of it after five trades. The pool changes with the encounter mode you selected at the start.

Two exceptions to the unlock rule

  • Randomizer runs get Wonder Trade from the start of the game, because the randomizer turns it on immediately.
  • Challenge runs get it only after you beat the game, which is the opposite of the normal rule.

The basement Wonder Trade NPC in Oldale Town's Pokémon Center (3F) is also a once-per-day event in the game's script data, alongside the other daily gift NPCs.

Does it break the economy?

Not really, and that is mostly by design: three a day, tiered odds, and the pool is limited to the 423 species the hack ships. It is a decent way to fill Pokédex gaps you cannot reach yet, especially for trade evolutions — anything you receive from Wonder Trade arrives as a normal Pokémon and still evolves the usual way.
