Modern Emerald Item Drops: What Every Wild Pokémon Leaves Behind

Modern Emerald drops held items from defeated wild Pokemon automatically - here is what each species drops, and the best items to farm.

Modern Emerald changes a core Gen 3 annoyance: items held by wild Pokémon are dropped when you defeat them, and the player collects them automatically. You no longer need to catch the Pokémon or use Thief to get its held item.

What that means in practice

  • Farming is just battling. Find a route with the species you need, win the fights, and the items are yours.
  • Rare drops exist. A species with a "rare" hold rate will still need several encounters, but nothing is one-per-save.
  • The best early targets: Heart Scales from Magikarp, Togepi and Feebas (Feebas always holds one), shards from the water routes, and the Lucky Egg from Pelipper (rare), Happiny and Chansey.
  • Big Nuggets come from Clamperl (rare) and from Rich trainers on rematch only — they sell for a lot and are the money route once rematches are unlocked.

Full list

Every one of the 58 held items with its holders is listed on the held items page. The EV yield of each species is on the EV yields page if you are farming for training rather than items.

Extracted from the game's held-item data (held-items.json); drop-on-defeat behaviour from the hack's official feature list.
