Modern Emerald Gym Leaders: Teams, Levels and Order

Every Modern Emerald Gym Leader in order with their full team, levels, moves and hold items, from Roxanne's Lv12 Geodude to Juan.

Last updated: September 27, 2026

Modern Emerald's gym leaders fight at similar levels to vanilla Emerald, but the teams are changed — different Pokémon, different movesets, and hold items where vanilla had none. If you enabled hard mode, all of these scale up with your badge count.

What to watch for

  • Roxanne leads with two Geodude and a Nosepass — a Fighting or Water start rolls her.
  • Wattson is the first fight that punishes an Electric-heavy team, because his own team is Electric and Manectric outspeeds most of what you have by then.
  • Norman is the difficulty spike. His Slaking does not have Truant in this hack, which is the single most important team change in the game. Plan for a Fighting move and a way to survive two hits.
  • Tate and Liza fight you in a double battle and their Pokémon get a damage boost while together, which the hack's Hard mode notes call out explicitly.
  • Juan sets rain — his Kingdra has Drizzle in this hack — so Water moves get stronger and Fire moves get weaker the moment the fight starts.

Teams, levels, moves and hold items read from the extracted game data (gym-leaders.json).
