Modern Emerald Evolution Guide: Every Method, Stone and Trade Evolution

Every Modern Emerald evolution method in one place: level-up levels, stone and held-item evolutions, which Pokémon still need a trade, friendship and Beauty requirements, and the day/night evolutions.

Modern Emerald keeps every evolution Emerald had and adds 32 more Pokémon from later generations. The rules are mostly vanilla Gen 3 — level, stone, friendship — with a handful of later-generation methods layered on, and one important exception: trade evolutions still need a trade, though the game now hands you a way to do that alone.

The Pokédex in this hack shows each Pokémon's evolution on its own page, so you can check any of these in-game as soon as you've seen the Pokémon.

The answers people actually search for

Eevee has seven evolutions here. Three of them use stones, and two of those are held rather than used:

EvolutionHow
Jolteon
Use a Thunder Stone
Flareon
Use a Fire Stone
Vaporeon
Use a Water Stone
Espeon
High friendship, level up during the day
Umbreon
High friendship, level up at night
Leafeon
Level up holding a Leaf Stone
Glaceon
Level up holding a Water Stone
Sylveon
Level up holding a Heart Scale (3.3+)

Trade evolutions still work the normal way. Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler and Haunter, plus the item trades (Onix, Seadra, Poliwhirl, Clamperl, Dusclops, Porygon, Rhydon, Magneton and friends) all evolve when traded — and Modern Emerald adds a Self-Trader in Lilycove so you can force a trade evolution with a single game. Trading with another copy still works too.

Snorunt has two endings. Glalie at level 42 either way; Froslass needs a female Snorunt at level 42, in the morning (6AM–9AM).

Kirlia has two endings. Gardevoir at level 30; Gallade needs a male Kirlia at level 30, in the morning.

Feebas still evolves by Beauty — raise it to 170 and level it up. Roselia → Roserade works the same way at Beauty 70, so it is much easier than Milotic.

Level-up evolutions

Every evolution that happens by levelling, in ascending order. Where a line forks, the condition is spelled out.

Modern Emerald has a day/night system: day runs 6AM–8PM, night runs 8PM–6AM, and morning is 6AM–9AM — the window the two new morning evolutions need.

Pokémon that were added to this hack

These 32 evolved forms did not exist in vanilla Emerald, which is why they need the newer methods above:

Ambipom, Annihilape, Chimecho, Dudunsparce, Dusknoir, Electivire, Farigiraf, Froslass, Gallade, Glaceon, Gliscor, Honchkrow, Leafeon, Lickilicky, Magmortar, Magnezone, Mamoswine, Mantine, Mismagius, Mrmime, Porygonz, Probopass, Rhyperior, Roselia, Roserade, Snorlax, Sudowoodo, Sylveon, Tangrowth, Togekiss, Weavile, Yanmega.

Getting the stones and items

Evolution stones are sold in the Slateport Market (Sun and Moon Stones are found in Altering Cave), Heart Scales come from Rock Smash, Magikarp, Togepi and Feebas, and the held trade items — King's Rock, Metal Coat, Dragon Scale, Deep Sea Tooth and Scale, Up-Grade, Spell Tag, Hard Stone — are held by wild Pokémon and sold at the Battle Frontier. See the evolution items guide for the full source list.

Evolution methods read from the hack's extracted data (evolution_chains.json), which is generated from the Modern Emerald source. Trade evolution and Self-Trader wording confirmed against the hack's own documentation.
