Modern Emerald's New encounters mode rewrites the wild tables for 132 areas, and the change is not uniform: most routes keep their vanilla species and gain a few, but a handful are substantially different, and the water routes change the most.

What to take from this

  • Route 101–104 stay close to vanilla, with a small number of new arrivals — mostly early-route species from later generations. This is why New mode still feels like Emerald's opening.
  • The water routes change the most. Surfing and fishing tables are where the extra species were concentrated, so if you are hunting a specific Pokémon from a later generation, look at the water first.
  • Postgame mode uses Original tables until you beat the game, then switches to these — so the tables above only apply to a Postgame save after the credits.
  • Altering Cave's fossils (Helix, Dome, Old Amber) also require New encounters.
