Modern Emerald Egg Groups and Breeding: Full Compatibility List

Every Modern Emerald Pokémon's egg group and gender ratio, how breeding changed in this hack, and the fast route to a perfect Pokémon.

Breeding in Modern Emerald is closer to modern games than to Emerald. The headline change: Pokémon inherit five IVs from their parents with no item needed — Destiny Knot behaviour, built in — and the Everstone now guarantees the nature on either parent, not just the mother.

What changed

  • Five IVs inherited, no item required.
  • Everstone works on either parent and locks the nature in.
  • Fewer steps per daycare level, so eggs come faster.
  • A free box space, taking storage to 450.
  • Nature mints arrive after the fourth gym (or after the Champion if you did not enable them), so natures can be fixed after the fact.

Egg groups

There are 15 egg groups across the hack's 436 Pokémon:

  • field — 113 Pokémon
  • water1 — 58 Pokémon
  • undiscovered — 56 Pokémon
  • monster — 51 Pokémon
  • bug — 40 Pokémon

Ditto

The fastest route to a perfect Pokémon

  1. Catch a Ditto — it is in the Desert Underpass and breeds with anything in a normal egg group. (The Undiscovered group, which is the legendaries and a few babies, cannot breed at all.)
  2. Chain breed the IVs you want onto a parent, using the five-IV inheritance.
  3. Lock the nature with an Everstone on the parent that already has it.
  4. Level and EV train — see the EV yields guide for where to do that.

Egg group and gender ratio data read from the extracted game data (breeding-compatibility.json); breeding changes from the official Modern Emerald documentation.
