Emerald Legacy Evolution Levels: What Changed, and the Full Level List
Two questions this page answers that the main evolution guide doesn't: which evolution levels Emerald Legacy moved from vanilla, and what level every single evolution in the ROM actually triggers at.
The short version of the first: ten species evolve earlier here, none evolve later, and 13 more had their method swapped (all the trade evolutions -- that's on the other page). The rest of Emerald's level curve is untouched.
The ten that now evolve earlier
| Evolution | Emerald Legacy | Vanilla Emerald | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
Ralts → Kirlia | Lv16 | Lv20 | 4 levels earlier |
Spinarak → Ariados | Lv21 | Lv22 | 1 levels earlier |
Pineco → Forretress | Lv25 | Lv31 | 6 levels earlier |
Slugma → Magcargo | Lv27 | Lv38 | 11 levels earlier |
Goldeen → Seaking | Lv28 | Lv33 | 5 levels earlier |
Aron → Lairon | Lv28 | Lv32 | 4 levels earlier |
Trapinch → Vibrava | Lv32 | Lv35 | 3 levels earlier |
Meditite → Medicham | Lv33 | Lv37 | 4 levels earlier |
Snorunt → Glalie | Lv36 | Lv42 | 6 levels earlier |
Vibrava → Flygon | Lv42 | Lv45 | 3 levels earlier |
The one that changes how you play is Slugma → Magcargo at 27 instead of 38, because Slugma is a 20% spawn on Route 113 -- you can have a Magcargo before badge four in this ROM, and it's a serviceable answer to Flannery's gym if your starter is the wrong type. Aron → Lairon at 28 matters for a different reason: Lairon doesn't become Aggron until 42, so the earlier middle step keeps the line usable while you wait.

What to take from that table
- Level 16 is the busiest rung. Every starter's middle stage is there, plus Ralts, Abra, Nidoran and the Kanto and Johto starters you can pick up later.
- Level 36 is the second big one, and it's where the final starter evolutions land -- Sceptile, Blaziken, Swampert, plus Charizard, Typhlosion and friends.
- The last evolutions in the game are at level 55: Dragonair → Dragonite and Pupitar → Tyranitar. If you want either, you're raising it deliberately, not picking it up along the way.
- 42 is the trade-family replacements -- Alakazam, Gengar and Aggron all land together there, which is later than most players reach on a normal playthrough.
Where these numbers come from: a full diff of Emerald Legacy's extracted evolution chains against vanilla Emerald's -- all 184 shared evolution entries, 10 level changes and 13 method changes, with nothing else different.
