Emerald Legacy EV Training: Yields for All 389 Pokemon + the Best Spots

EV training is the cheapest power in the game. You get 510 EVs per Pokemon, 255 per stat, and 4 EVs equal one stat point at level 100 -- which means a properly invested Pokemon is worth about 63 extra stat points over an untrained one. It costs you nothing but time, and it's the difference between a team that walks through the Elite Four and one that grinds through three attempts.

So here's the whole system, the yields for every species, and the fastest place to farm each stat in Emerald Legacy.

The rules that matter

• 510 EVs total, 255 max per stat. In practice you invest 252 in one stat and 252 in another, because the 4:1 conversion wastes the leftovers.
• Every KO gives EVs to every Pokemon that gained experience from it -- including the ones sitting in your party doing nothing. That's why you can EV train six Pokemon at once, or why your freshly caught legendary ends up with junk EVs if you fight with it before you plan its spread.
• Macho Brace doubles every EV you gain while held. It halves the holder's Speed in battle, which is irrelevant when you're farming. You get it from the Winstrate house on Route 111.
• Check yourself on the stat screen. Press A on your Pokemon's stats page and it pages over to EV/IV values, so you can confirm a stat is maxed instead of guessing.

Where to farm each stat

Weighted by encounter rate on the route's grass table, so a route full of the right species beats a route that spawns one good species in ten. Numbers are EVs per encounter before the Macho Brace.

Two warnings that save a wasted trip: Magma Hideout is the Defense hotspot and it closes permanently once you finish the story, so do that training before the Magma arc ends. Victory Road is the HP spot, which is fine, but it's also where you'll be fighting for a while before you can leave.

What to actually invest

Three spreads cover almost everything in this ROM, which has no competitive ladder on the site's card:

• Physical attacker -- 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP. The default for the starter lines, Linoone, Swellow, Aggron.
• Special attacker -- 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP. Gardevoir, Manectric, Alakazam.
• Defensive wall -- 252 HP / 252 Def (or SpD) / 4 the other. Slaking as a switch-in, Skarmory, Claydol.

For the Elite Four specifically, Speed is the stat that decides most fights. Steven's Metagross at level 58 will outspeed anything that isn't invested, and Drake's Salamence outspeeds most of what you'd bring to answer it.
